The Zittau Mountains are a lovely low mountain range and traditional tourist region in Saxony. It is famous for its giant sandstone mountains and the leftovers of erstwhile volcanic activity. The visitor will find a huge hiking territory with more then 300km trails. Border crossing points to Czech Republic and Poland allow hiking or cycling tours through the neighboring countryside. For those who are interested in climbing, the Zittau Mountains offer a huge variety of fixed robe routes in all levels of difficulty.

The lovely health resort Oybin located in a valley surrounded be high wooded mountains is the vibrating center of the Zittau Mountains. In the middle of the village you will recognize the Oybin mountain which rock’s shape has a strong resemblance to a beehive. In 1873 Oybin joined the group "Verband sächsischer Sommerfrischen", and in 1930 Oybin became a health resort.

Whereas in former times Oybin visitor had to come by mail coach, since 1890 they have been able to use the Zittau Mountain railway. Today this service is provided by the ZOJE (Zittau-Oybin-Jonsdorfer Eisenbahn). A small railroad museum at Oybin station offers a review of the development of the historical railway.  

Beneath the Oybin mountain a lovely baroque church was built in 1734 erbaute Kirche. Due to marriages that have been taken place here for a long time, the church is also called “Hochzeitskirchlein" (marriage church). Furthermore, the church is place for weekly concerts by candlelight.

In Oybin the visitor will find lovely old-fashioned houses, green recreation areas, and nice restaurants, cafes and hotels.

A famous attraction for kids is the "Märchenspiele" (game of fairy stories) that embodies country typical fairy stories showing moving wooden graven figures.
